Hinge slots or mortises are unsightly gaps left behind when doors are removed from doorways. Then scuff the cup portion of the hinge with sandpaper where it will contact the adhesive. Allow to dry according to the directions on the spackle for me it was about 2 hours. Apply petroleum jelly to the movable portions of the hinge to protect them from the glue.

Cover the gaps left in the frame or door. Start by removing the hinge from the door and preparing the damaged area photo 1. Apply it liberally and use the knife to flatten it as best as you can with the putty knife. This may include covering over any wood stains left by the hinge.

Once the wood is the right size glue the inward facing side and then press it into place.
